I just received an email from B.A.S.S. announcing that they are not allowing A-Rigs and other multiple bait tactics like using a jig as a drop shot weight. This is only for the Elite Series and Bassmaster Classic.
Interesting, I hope other organizations will follow.

Yeah, just popped up on FB too. They are banning all multi-bait rigs including double fluke rig, using a jig head as a weight on a drop shot, etc. What the news release doesn't say is if you can use the A rig with teasers and only one bait with a hook. I agree this should be banned from competitive fishing. It appears to take away from the skill set the pros should be required to have to compete. I already ordered a couple of these things. Hope I get to use before they get banned out right. Guess I can always hang Christmas lights on them next year....

I'll be the bad guy here and disagree as I see it as an unjust form of censorship. If this rig does not violate any state laws I don't think B.A.S.S. should have banned it. I am more concerned about the fact they are interfering with the chance for people to produce these legal rigs and make money, legally. To me its less about the fishing end of it than it is the chance for someone to make some money. What B.A.S.S. says and does will greatly impact the sales of these lures.
As far as a fishing club accepting this or banning it, put it on a ballot or do a voice vote to see what your members think. Either way at that level you won't be making or breaking anyones right to the American dream.
Hope this sounds friendly enough as I am not trying to be critical, just pointing out the economics of it.

You're not wrong Roy and I'm sure the small guys making these rigs are more then a little concerned. Still, how long would it have been before the big guys take over anyway(Mann's already took over the original design/sales) and how long before someone starts mass producing them in China? Plus us home shop guys can start making our own too. You know, this move might actually help the local small guy. No major bait company is likely to take a chance on building these things now while the small guys are already pumping them out. This might actually help the little guy for a change.

I'm glad you got what I meant. I was reluctant to say anything that may have been misconstrued as being critical about peoples opinion on this devise. People can do what they like as far as I'm concerned as long as they give me the same respect. If I want to use this and its legal, I will and if I try it and don't like it I won't, but it will be my choice. Glad we understand each other.

I would have to agree with most everything Elias said, maybe all of it. In most regards he took the thought right out of my head. You're right it was an interesting read............. Not to imply anything interesting ever goes on in my head.

Goes or stays.... ;D ;D ;D ;D
Will be interesting to see how much this is discussed next month at Bass University in Worcester. Booked it today and booked a room at the no tell hotel. Look forward to attending one of these again.
I will give A-rig a try this season and see what happens. From what I've read, you get tired tossing/reeling these things in pretty fast. Plus if there is floating grass/weeds in the water column they will be pretty useless. I will try in the Hudson for sure and maybe Cossayuna. Mohawk if I get on it but I haven't fished in it in probably 10 years. I hear it is great so maybe I need to go out with someone familiar with fishing it first.

Got mine in the mail today. Surprised it is a tighter grouping then I expected but will make it easier to throw and avoid snags.

Each of the wires is spread out to a certain degree when you set it up for fishing. They probably group it tight together for packaging purposes and for storage. Looks like your the first kid on the block with a new toy!

Oh, I understand that but even spread out the baits will only be 6-8" apart. Some of these pictures make it look like the have 10-12" or even more spread. I'd rather have the smaller one. I'm sure you will see these where they are legal. There is so much publicity I'm sure I'm not the only one who will buy a couple to at least try. Won't be anytime soon though!

Perfect, my power auger is 8". Come on up and we'll give it a try! When we take our annual trip to BPS in Foxboro, I'll look them all over and buy one to try. What brand did you get? The original is being produced by Mann's Bait Company.

Fellow Bass Cat owner makes these. Website below. His prices are good compared to many. I bought the 5 wire unpainted. I added some eyes I had and its fine. Joey uses good strength wire (.045) and these swivels seem top notch. You can pay via pay pal using an email. I ordered late last week and got them yesterday. www.flatlandscustomtackle.com/flatlands_002.htmI spent some time playing with one rig tonight adding baits and tying it on a pole. Just used some baits I had which were a little heavy for this application. I weighed the rig with 5 baits an it weighted a little under 6 ounces... That is hefty. Need to use baits without weights in them I think. I can't emphasis enough how important excellent quality ball bearing swivels are going to be on these if you want it to run true. I can tell just by looking at it. If you buy one Roy, really check the swivels. In the mean time, send directions so we can try it ice fishing ;D

Got to check the ice thickness first. If there is 8" its going on. Never had to wait so long. Once its out I'd like to extend invitations to any members who'd like to come over and fish. Kids would be welcomed!
