Hey guys, not sure how true this is,but a buddy of mine said those Alabama rigs are NOT legal in Champlain. He said you can use them, but with only 2 jigs on them.He said that not all 5 wires can have hooks. You may want to look into to this before trying them.

Hey BC - That is true but I live in NY (Capital District) and in our local non-Champlain waters it's still legal. At least so far. I actually plan to use them for stripe bass in the Hudson this spring before using for black bass. Using them on Champlain with no more then two baits with hooks is a gray area so far IMHO. I imagine the new reg will be tested this year. But not by me!
To me I think it will be a fun method to try but you can't throw it all day or you will end up pretty fatigued. The thing is bloody heavy and has a lot of resistance to pull against in the water. It will flat out wear you out. I've only thrown mine in a local pond for ha ha's. It is heavy and the tackle you need to throw it is heavy. I'm actually going to use a heavy rod/spinning reel I normally use for stripe bass plugs.
Should be an interesting experiment if nothing else.
