Just got back from a fun family vacation in which a little multispecies action was enjoyed. A bit of a departure from the XH rod and 65lb braid or even the little dropshot rig...all traded in for a 4-weight and 5x tippet. Hope you enjoy. 12,000 ft elevation...hard to handle coming from +/- 400ft! Cutthroat water at about 11,500 ft elevation Roadside gold-medal trout water--pounded into submission by a zillion tourons like me on a daily basis, I think these are the most educated trout in the universe. Mountain Cutt in its full glory

somewhere more secluded! We fished mostly some higher lakes and a few small streams that dont get much pressure at all, but after several days of running around at 12000ft, my wife realized that she was tired and she had a 50k running race in a few days, and informed me that we'd be sleeping in and fishing roadside. those roadside rivers are very difficult fishing, but there are a lot of fish in it...I spent a lot of time sight fishing rainbows the size of my leg who refused everything I threw at them, and only managed a few smaller fish. Could be a lot worse! It is interesting though, that water its easy as can be to find the fish, but they are extremely selective in what they eat and your presentation has to be PERFECT. Contrasted with fishing in Champlain where the bass and pike I fish for arent really that selective usually, but its often finding them thats difficult. Different for sure.

Beautiful cuthroat! I had no problem catching them in Wyoming in the Snake River or in Yellowstone Lake. Some of the lakes and streams in Teton Park had cuts too but not quite as colorful as the Yellowstone fish or that one you showed us. Got most of them on Rooster Tails.

"tourons"... good word. I'm looking forward to using it in a sentence myself someday, replacing the venerable "touristos" ;D
Good pics! Cool post.

A nice departure from the usual bass post Reminded me of my fly fishing days on the Battenkill in NY state. Thanks.
