Hey Just found this forum a few days ago. I have been a fishing nut for years. Thought I'd join and share some of my stories and learn from you all. I live in Central VT, taking the boat out tomorrow and/or Monday. I will report back. The attached photo is a smallie my son caught several years ago. That is one of many big smallies he and I have caught in recent years. Cheers Tom Attachments:

Welcome aboard and look forward to your reports. What part of Champlain and other waters do you usually fish? Usually fish Mallets Bay up thru the Islands. I want to spend a few more days down south this year. I fish the CT and Megog as well as lakes near home. Question for you, what is a good launch near Vergeness? I put in there 20 years ago and can't remember which launch we used. Thx

Welcome aboard Tom. I look forward to reading your reports.
Near Vergennes you can launch in Otter Creek at Red Gate. I believe there is also a launch just below the falls in Vergennes but I have not used it myself so I don't know much about it.

I fish Mallets bay a lot too, it's only 20 min or so from h ome. I don't make it all the way down to vergennes much, but the launch below the falls is dirt and has very little room to park a bigger trailer. I put my boat in there once, but felt like I was sitting in a battleship in the tub...a little Jon boat or the like would "fit" there a lot better. There's also a launch out at the mouth of the river that I haven't used, and Mccuen slang right at the crown point bridge. The fish and wildlife site has pretty good info about the various launches and access areas here: www.vtfishandwildlife.com/fish_accessareas.cfm

Welcome to the forum. Fort Cassin launch would be in Ferrisburg but that is close to Vergennes, and the launch is good. Dirt access road to a concrete pad launch, lots of parking and decent turnaround about 1 mile upstream on Otter Creek from the lake.
South Slang at Little Otter is okay in the spring when the water is up.
A little know launch at Arnold's Bay in Panton is usable but rough and the parking has been spotty due to the construction at the Tri-Town water treatment plant.
Button Bay has a launch but its not great. Okay for a 14 ft. aluminum but larger boat would have to back down from the parking area a good distance to the water. Shallow dirt launch, kind of rough.
Chimney Point is good to go. Good ramp, good turnaround with a dock and good food at the Bridge Restaurant or Goodies food stand up the road but beware loading when the wind is from the north or a t-storm rolls in.

Thanks for all the launch tips, I think I will hit fort cassin this weekend.
Have to call a Turkey in for my son on Saturday. If all goes well I will be on the water by noon!

I was up to vergennes last weekend and for some reason the launch was closed under the bridge. Mcuen Slang which is a mile and a half below the bridge is a tough launch. They built a launch on the NY side of the bridge as well in the chimney point state park but the park was closed last weekend also. Sorry for the bad news. I also fish the CT River. We have a tournament on may 4th out of springfield, vt and again the following weekend out of hinsdale with southern vermont bass.
