Got to Benson's Landing at noon on Sunday, the place was packed! Luckily a small boat had just pulled out and one parking space was left. Don't know if you're allowed to park along side the road there or not but several were. Pretty windy NW, water super clean for that area, water temp 61 to 63, lake level 97.90 at the ferry dock, sunny and bluebird conditions. Fished south of Benson and saw a lot of alewifes, lots of fishermen, lots of ospreys, a nice day. Caught 17 LM between us, none big, only one put on the scale was 3 lb. 10 oz.. Only a few were females. Also 1 crappie, 1 pickerel and 1 short but thick pike about 3 lb. Monday put in at Larabee's. Was calm and again water very clean, north wind came up gusty in early p.m.. Looked for pike first, then bass, then anything that wanted to bite. Saw a lot of bedding activity inside the weed lines. Had a good buzz bait bite most of the day, but it took a lot of casts. Spoon and spinnerbait worked and the Mrs. got her first of the year on a frog. I got my first of the year on a worm. More to follow. All day between us we caught and released 22 LM ( 3 or 4 were dinks, none over 3 lb.), 1 pike (short but stout as well), 2 pickerel and a bowfin. Quit at 6:00. Vibratron spinner bait folled this one.....must have looked like an alewife. 3/4 oz Johnson spoon tricked this one....must have looked like an alewife 6 lb. 9 oz. Bowfin exploded on the buzz bait. With 30 lb. braid it was a tug of war. Very cool, wish I'd get one everyday.

Sounds like a couple of nice days. Thanks for sharing.
Was there much left of the buzz bait after the bowfin smashed it? They usually make a mess out of whatever I hook them on even if it is just a worm hook.

Fun stuff, I don't think I have ever had a bowfin on a topwater!

Was there much left of the buzz bait after the bowfin smashed it? . There was a trailer hook on the buzz bait so one hook was in it's mouth and one in it's chin. With a bit of re-bending and several trial casts I got it to track again. It was a riot to catch!
