I don't know if anyone is following what is going on over on Lake George. The rich property owners are trying to pass regulations that will make it difficult and very very expensive for the working stiff or sportsman to use the lake or have a camp on it. They want locked gates and inspections before a boat can launch plus they want to charge exorbitant fees to do it. Even more then they charge now which isn't cheap. And you know they aren't going to be open at 4-5 am when folks want to fish or hunt. I understand the goal of trying to control invasive species getting in the lake if that is the real intent. But I wonder sometime if that is really the intent. Note they only want to inspect/charge power boats. So far it appears they plan to give the car toppers free rein. Why am I not surprised. If you are going to inspect and charge boats to use the lake, charge everyone or no one. And be open/manned when sports men/women want to use the lake too, not just when the party boat crowd wants to get on the lake.

I've never fished Lake George, are there any state owned launches or are they all private? I would find it hard to believe that they would do that at a state access, but who knows it is New York after all ;D

No, there are a few public launches. The northern end near Ti is Mossy Point and there is one at the Washington County public park/launch. Believe there are others also. I'm sure people with property on the lake would love to see them closed.

May very well be an attempt to keep "us" out. There are more and more waterbodies becoming hard to access. Many its just a reason to keep "us" out. There are however some communities that are doing inspections with volunteers and in some cases paying the inspectors. Also, they are not trying to keep "us", but are truly concerned about keeping invasive species out. To those that are doing the right thing thank you! To the others.................
We may not have the best accesses in the area here in VT, but we are lucky to have access to most all public water and most are fine for launching a typical fishing boat for which they were intended.
Let's remember to do our best to not spread exotic species. I always clean my boat before going to a lake, pond or river that has no exotic vegetation. After a trip to Champlain I go a bit farther cleaning and draining the bilge and livewell areas and taking the boat and trailer to the car wash and letting it dry in the sun as long as possible. And then inspect the boat, motor and trailer for any hitchhikers. Never found any live mussels, but have had some shells get on board somehow.

When the park is open it's a day use fee ($6 I think), when the park is not open it's free, although the dock is most likely not in. Might as well drive over to the park instead of using Mossy Pt. Saves a lot of no wake zone area boating and helps pay for the parks. Win, win. Off season the Million Dollar beach in LB village has a free ramp. Closed during beach season.

L. George association has been trying to make this public body of water into their own private paradise for years. Invasive species is their panacea .... what they think is their best hope to accomplish this. And they keep moving it that way inch by inch.
