Read about this product on the Bass Cat Owners forum and gave it a try. What it is is a device that attaches to the TM shaft to reduce torque. You know how when you step on the foot peddle power button and if it's on higher setting, the motor wants to turn hard left/right too fast and you have to try to stop with the foot control usually when your are trying to fight a fish. What the Trolling Perfect devise does is allow you to control how much friction is applied to lower shaft so it doesn't swing hard left/right. I used it for the first time this season and I was impressed with it. Adjustments are easy on the water and no tools required to make the adjustment. I thought it was worth the under the $30 cost (including shipping). Took maybe 15 minutes to install. Thought some of you might be interested. www.trollperfect.com/Pages/OrderHere.aspx

I bought one this summer as well. My trolling motor was quite loose, and While it was no biggie in calm water I had an especially hard time in waves. I was told by a dealer about how to adjust the tension in the shaft, but it was a very involved fix that I wasn't sure about doing in mid season. Anyway, I love it--works perfectly.

I've always hated the slamming and knocking my TM (MK) makes when I step on the pedal, even at low power. I'm going to look into one of these ... thanks Brian!

No problem. Something I learned about over on BC forum. BCB is selling them now too along with a new quick height adjustment for TM. I never adjust the height so I didn't see the use in that but if you are changing from open windy water to shallow often they also would be a good mod for the trolling motor.

I was told by a dealer about how to adjust the tension in the shaft, but it was a very involved fix that I wasn't sure about doing in mid season. Anyway, I love it--works perfectly. Dave, I am familiar with making the adjustment on a Motor Guide. On the top of the shaft under the plastic cover is a brass or bronze pinion gear. This is threaded onto the lower piece which passes thru the larger one. What I think they would recommend is backing off the pinion gear by loosening the allen screw that locks the gear in place, and turning the pinion gear counterclockwise. Next step would be to loosen the three allen screws holding the bearing on the lower shaft and pushing it tight to the upper shaft. Next turn the pinion gear clockwise to the desired tension you would like but not over tight. I kept having problems because I did not realize the gear was almost unthreaded from the shaft. Once I cranked it up as far as it would go then backed it of a 1/4 turn or so and slid the bearing up tight and adjusted the tension it has not needed adjustment since. Probably by now there is something on youtube or one of the help forums. Be careful what they say on those forums. Sometimes I think some of those guys deliberately give misinformation.
