Its a great time of year to be perch fishing especially for big perch but seems not to be a great time to catch them at least for me on the CT River. This spring while trying to catch a MA angler crappie I had some fun catching other species such as bass, pike and pickerel on #4 line and miniature tubes, grubs, cranks and spinners. Some of the "other" fish I was catching were so big I needed to go up to #6 line as not to over stress them during the fight. Tonight did manage some perch but no big ones. It was cold and windy and I was about to pack it in when the rod doubled over; Kept this 21" 'eye for eating, too bad because right after I put him on my makeshift stringer, this one hit; Great eating size, about 19" and a male, but you can only have one over 18" here on the river so back he went; But you can have up to four under 16" The smaller one was 15.999" Caught five of them on a white 1" tube on #6 line and a light action rod. Lot of fun...............but damn cold!

Hmmm ... they don't look like perch! Lipping a walleye, now I see? You must have one tough thumb! Nice meal there!
