It wasn't rainin' or blowin' or snowin' so it was a great day to be out on the water. Put in at the VTF&W access at Benson's Landing at the early hour (for us) of 10:45. Had bass and pike in mind. Water was 56 to 57 degrees, light NW breeeze, good water color with maybe 2.5 ft. visibility, lake level 98.42 or so and current was flowing south. Hard to believe but we saw few other anglers out. Perhaps everyone had turkeys or walleye on their minds. Fished north and south of the ramp, main lake, backwaters and community holes. Found the bass to be well off the bank in 4' to 7' around weeds. It was hard to not keep hitting the bank as the day was warming up....so we kept trying....but mostly it wasn't the deal. Had to keep telling myself it snowed hard two days earlier. Diane hooked a Bowfin about 6 lbs. in the tail with a jig on short line. Shoulda seen that rod bend! No photo as we figured a foul hooked fish really doesn't count. All day between us we caught and released 27 LM (3 dinks), 8 pickerel and the Bowfin. No pike, but it's nice to see the bigger pickerel showing up again. Best one of the day 5 lb. 1 oz. Diane hooks up. A nice 4 lb. 1 oz. bass. End of another nice day at Champlain. Weeds are coming on strong and they are filtering the water pretty well. Seems like the backwater bass are just waiting to hit the beds, not so interested in feeding...or maybe it was just the day.

Nice fish Brian, There hasn't seemed to be a real good shallow bite this spring or maybe I missed it.
