Chilly and frontal but still a nice day in April. Had to wear some layers that never came off. We hit the ramp at Benson again Friday at our usual 11:00 hour. Lake conditions the same as on 4/20 except the wind was more persistent NNW. It went from gusty to sustained and made boat control challenging. A new high pressure front was setting up and the fish weren't as active as we found them to be on Tuesday. Fished only back waters from the ramp south to Maple Bend. Weeds are coming up, and algae is starting to bloom in some areas. Water was only a few degrees warmer (than the main channel), only saw 59 a few times in pockets. Couldn't find any Pike but did manage 26 LM and 2 pickerel between us. Most of the bass were 1 1/2 lb. to 2 1/2 lb. range, best of the day tipped the scale at 3 lb. 5oz. Spinnerbaits and spoons worked best around cattails, wood and submerged grass. Quit at 6:30 and were only able to count 17 deer and 17 turkeys on the ride home. Diane hauls in a nice "stickerel" on a spider grub. This ones a fish for sure! Yup! Ospreys nest in navigation aid. This nest was cleared away in fall 2008. It reappeared in spring 2009 and had birds, as it does now.
