We went to the lower CT river 5/17 for a half day of backwater pan fishing. At least I was in full pan fish mode, Diane still brought some of her bass gear as well. Good thing as it turned out later. The river was high, brown and ripping from the recent rains. So we put in at the Hinsdale public launch around mid-day. Sunny and cool with some NW wind that layed down later in the afternoon. Main channel temp. was 58, back waters up to 68 degrees. Before I had even started the big motor we'd landed a white perch, yellow perch, lmb,'gills and pickerel. The 'gills hadn't yet started bedding. Perch were the most active fish. Crappies hard to find. Big rock bass were up on the bank. All the bass I caught using #2 Mepps, beetle spins, tiny crankbaits and small swim baits were dinks. But Di landed a couple of good ones on a Pond Magic spinnerbait. She also had her Rebel Wee Frog working on bigger 'seeds and rockies. Rockies can't resist that slow wobble. Over our five hour day we caught and released 39 yellow perch (up to 11.5"), 1 white perch, 3 crappies, 12 'gills, 9 rockbass, 5 pickerel, 4 'seeds, 3 smb, 8 lmb and one stray walleye. Diane gets a 10" Master Angler rocky! And a 20 1/8" Master Angler largemouth! Good thing she brought that chatterbait rig . To keep harmony, I caught the largest rocky, 10.5"

Diane does find those big bass. Can I borrow her for one of the club tournaments?

Thanks for posting. Had you not I would have forgot to put my panfish stuff back in the boat. Woah, that would have been a problem. Hoping the 'gills are gonna be angry tomorrow!

Nice Rock Bass! Any kind of panfish on the panfish-sized crankbaits are a ton of fun on light line. If anyone is looking for a Master Angler rock bass in the Rutland area, I'll let you in on a little secret .... tube jigs in Dunmore.
