Just wondering if anyone uses these. I was wondering any disadvantages with action when using them. Do they change action?
I'm looking to be able to change crankbaits quicker. I find that I stick with the same one for long periods of time even if it isn't working.

What are quick clips???
Are they the same as snap swivels? I don't use them because I think they kill the action but hey that's just me.

I do not, but I tie a knot pretty quickly. Some guys I fish with use a snap, I guess a quick clip is similar. Always looked like too much hardware to me having a snap attached to a split ring but maybe you could remove the split ring most cranks come with and attach to your line just using the quick clip.

I used snaps for a while but it led me to not retying enough. I still have snaps on some baits in place of split rings. The snaps don't have that crack to get your line stuck in and don't seem to hurt lure action.

I too always use snaps on crankbaits. Even when fishing the crankbaits on braided line I've never had a snap fail. Never pulled the line out of a snag with a straightened out snap. I use size 1, black, Dual Lock, from NBS $1.49 for a 10 pack. Berkley makes one too called Cross-Loc Snaps, but their shape is more pointed and it's tougher (especially with cold fingers) to open and close them.
Snaps are the way to go as far as jerkbaits and spooks too. They will give a Johnson spoon a better wobble but will pick up additonal slime.
Don't use them on Chugbugs or poppers.

I use them some too when I find I'm switch cranks a lot searching for mecca. At Bass University, a couple pros talked about using them and all said, remove the split ring first. I like a smaller one and sometimes I'll use a sharpie to color swivel or snap to match water color.

Why not on Chugbugs? Do you tie direct to the eye? I thought the manufacturer at one time recommended a snap, but I'm not sure. Did they at one time come with a split ring?

Thanks guys, the guys that use them, do you remove the original split ring or use them in conjunction with each other?

I would remove the split ring and put on the snap.

Thanks guys, the guys that use them, do you remove the original split ring or use them in conjunction with each other? I've heard that suggestion, but I've never done it. I always just snap to the split ring. Seems to work fine for me. Works fine for me too.

On a small popper even the little bit that the snap weighs and disturbance it can cause changes the action and noses the lure down. Chugbugs just won't "dogwalk" as well with a snap. They can be a tricky lure to use properly in the best case. I think the snap allows the bait to roll too far to one side. I use them infrequently, but post spawn on a breezy day they catch bass. I've never been to a tournament on the river where the guys targeting smallies didn't all have one tied on.

Yeah, always tie direct to O-ring on chug bug. Love 'em, got a tray of those too. Favorite top water by far. Last year there was so much wind never really go to throw them much so didn't loose any. Pike like them too....

I'll test the 'bug using one as I always have and try one without. My basic retrieve is pop-pop stop but you have peaked my curiousity.
Never used any hardware on a pop-r, tied direct for reasons you mentioned.
