Wow! What a weekend I just had. Great bass fishing and the pickerel were big and lots of them. Finally got a Master Angler pickerel after coming up short over and over this spring. Got this one in the shallow bay just north of the ledge beyond marker 76 on Southern Champlain. I was getting ready to leave the area when I saw a spot that looked like it would hold a big pickerel. Motored over a bit and the first cast with a chatterbait proved me right. Here it is, 25.5". Had a hard time getting the lure out, therefore did not weigh it, but it should be okay. That makes five species, hope to get a few more. Look out VMA crappie, you're next.

Wow, not even four full months into the year and you're ready for your pin!!! Way to go Roy! Thanks! I attribute this to an ealry spring and a very lucky sheephead bite! ;D And to make it better, soon after catching #5 I got a text from a buddy of mine and his son got a VMA crappie for his 5th! Devin is 11 and a great fisherman, obviously.

I think I might pass the "Roy Rule" for the Master Angler program next year. One species per month only! Let's negotiate. Drop the size for crappie to 12.5" and I'll abide by the "Roy Rule". The last two days I have measured at least 6 at 12.5". Tonight got one 12.75". Seriuosly? ?? This is getting in the way of my bassin'. Got a Master Angler 'gill tonight at 9.25" but I know you are already overworked what with all your press conferences and TV appearances and all ;D so I did not take a photo.

So early in the season too. I feel your pain (not really) on the CT river crappies. Last season I measured several at 12.75", hopefully a few grew....and didn't get sauteed.

Hmmmmmmmmmm, maybe I ate all the Master Angler crappie Seriously, we let some of the best females swim yesterday. Now that we are only two we can be more selective.
