Hit the Latham Dick's this morning and found they had Strike King, Yamamoto, and Rapala on sale for 20% off. Also some original Chatterbaits marked down to $4.99. Had to run out to the truck for my Entertainment coupon for $10 off if spend $50. Six KVD square bills (2.5) and 4 Chatterbaits got me there in a hurry... OK, now I got to go back and read up on here about fishing these square bills everyone has been talking about. Interesting shapes and colors. Look forward to getting them wet. These things are almost as fat as they are long. Like looking in the mirror....

It's a good idea to keep your eyes open this time of year. I was at Dick's last week and they had the 20% off and lots of other items marked down. Tackle Warehouse has a daily special. Last week Bandit crankbaits were on sale for $3.79. Stocked up on my most used colors and models. Also got 20% off on a gift certificate for my favorite charity for Christmas from Landbigfish.com

Looks like one of ones I picked up. Actually only bought 3 colors but usually I grab two of each cause if I don't, I'm sure to loose the only I got when it's the only thing they are hitting. I'm guessing these should be worked slow over and beside the weeds. Can't wait to try it out. Guessing it has one big wobble. Not sure what the square bill gets you in the way of action that a normal bill doesn't. I know they are supposed to come through wood/rocks better.

Not sure what the square bill gets you in the way of action that a normal bill doesn't. I know they are supposed to come through wood/rocks better. If you have these three you are off to a good start. These are the colors I consider basic and would not be without; A crawfish pattern, a natural shiner/shad/alewife pattern and something bright for dingy conditions , not to mention it seems smallies love chartreuse. Come to think of it most gamefish do! Here are my weapons of bass destruction; These are my smaller bodied baits made up of shallow running sq. bills, med. divers 6-8 ft. and deep divers, 8-12 ft. Here are my larger bodied baits covering approximately the same zones though a few do get deeper; The last few years I've been fishing more shallow and favor sq. bills. Less effort for one and you can cover water faster than searching deeper water with a deep diver. Oh yeah, also had severe carpal tunnel once from fishing deep divers most of the year. By no means do you need all these to get started but they are fun to have ;D ! One more thought on getting started. A rod designed for cranking is a very valuable tool for hooking, playing and landing fish. Stiffer rods can make you set too soon and fish can tear the hooks out easier as well. Another advantage is you should be able cast lighter baits farther as the softer tip helps to launch the bait. I always used a stiffer rod years ago until I finally had to do something about fish tearing off. The softer action really helped. If you find they are tearing the hooks out use a softer rod, I assure you it will help.

Tackle Warehouse has a daily special. I am thinking of un-friending Tackle Warehouse before I go broke the daily specials are great and then I always seem to go for the free shipping at $50. Marketing Geniuses!!

Got the top two and the 3rd was the sexy sunfish. But I think I got a couple square bill Rapala's in the blue/chartreuse color scheme. My smaller round bills are Bombers and larger med/deep divers are mostly Lighten' Shad (no longer in production but I got a ton of them). The old Storm lure was deadly for a few years a few years back but not so much lately. Not sure why. BTW, like those trays, great for cranks. I have to straighten out mine soon. Maybe take some pictures. There are A LOT of trays....
I had to have surgery on both hands for carpel tunnel. MUCH better now. Got tennis elbow at same time having problems with hands and I think it had to do with throwing cranks too. Elbow hurt like hell. Few Cortisone shots later in both elbows (and changing how I held the rod) that went away too. Damn, out of excuses.... Funny part was doctor who treated me was a big bass fisherman (Dr. James Schneider who came in 9th in Everstart event last year out of Plattsburg. We spent 15 minutes talking Champlain, maybe 2 minutes on my elbow... My kind of doctor.

Went to Dick's the other day. I'm very proud of myself. Only bought 6 bags of Senkos. My said,"What is the matter? They didn't have the right colors?" Got 4 KVD squares in 1.5. Bought the 2.5 last year. Not sure why I'm buying crankbaits, but it is better than going to the Christmas Tree Shop. Wanted to buy some Chatterbaits, but they only had 2 3/8 oz so I bought them. BTW Roy thanks for posting your crank bait pictures. Showed them to my wife and she doesn't think I have a problem anymore. ;D Bob

Roy is always there to help. And he makes us look good cause we don't go out anywhere near as much as he does!
Yes, Entertainment book is great. The idea of logging how much you save is a great idea. We always buy at discounted price buying one early in the year and a 2nd one when cheap later. You can save a bundle on sports equipment, paint (Curtis Lumber), plus all the food items. When you can knock off $25 on a new driver or reels already marked down it is a wonderful thing. We eat out often and like to try new places so it works out for that too. I figured I saved at least $30 at Dicks on 10 baits between the sale and Entertainment book.

Went to the Dick's in Rutland tonight before our club meeting To say their selection was less than stellar would be a minor understatement I did get 3 KVD 2.5 and used the rest of my gift card to get my second oldest boy a baitcasting combo that was reduced to $29.98. I am sure it will not stand up too much abuse, but for how much he will use it and to learn on it should be perfect. He wasn't all that excited, but did like the fact he did not have to borrow his little brother's rod any more. Looking forward to my annual trip to Bass Pro Shops when their spring sale starts. Going to have to save up for it this year though, I did not get any BPS gift cards this year. I guess I will have to be a better boy next year.

I bet he will be more excited as the season gets closer. A new baitcaster and a couple of Dad's new KVD square bills and he will be set to go

The choices do vary at Dick's. I find now the Latham store is much better then Crossgates. Used to be the other way around. CG went to the Dick's super store floor plan with all the golf/fishing/hunting upstairs as far away from the entrance as they can get it. If you are trying to get and out quick, forget it. If anyone comes down to Albany area, you right by Latham store which is right off the Route 7 exit. Just go east on 7 and its the first intersection to the left at Latham Farms.
And no, no longer have stock in Dick's.......
