I can't help but chuckle every time I consider the A-Rig. Bass fishermen are very willing to shell out exorbitant amounts of money to buy the latest and greatest of fluorocarbon fishing line. All with the intent of making their lures more stealthy, less intrusive. Now, along comes a rig with a ridiculous amount of terminal tackle and everyone wants it too. Wonder if they rig it on flouro? I am willing to spend $20-$25 or so on this rig because I believe it would be a useful tool for schooling fish.Catching more than one at a time is real cool! Anytime that has happened to me it made my day! That's what I'm looking for, just some fun. As far as being stealthy, that's not me either, you've seen what I fish with! If I throw an A-Rig it won't be on flouro. It will however be tied tightly to some heavy line for sure. But I do see your point, I just have a different perspective. Here are a few lures that I heard many people say would not work and why or just couldn't see a niche for them; Sluggo- "looks like just a fat piece of plastic to me". That was from an angler after I caught 30 plus bass in a club tourney and finished second. That was as a non-boater. Senko's-"Just what I need, more plastic worms" That was me Swimbaits-"They only work out west". That was a good buddy of mine. There is a pic in the forum of him holding a smallie on LC after I had boated about six on a swimbait. Alabama rig-................we'll see!

There is just something wrong with this rig. Not sure what it is, but it just seems to go against the idea that fishing is a sport. Just my feeling. I wouldn't buy or build one. Nuff said. Bob

Bob I couldn't agree more Bob, was actually thinking of suggesting that my club would outlaw them for club tournaments.

Seems like everyone is thinking this rig is going to make fishing too easy. I disagree. Nearly 50 years on the water tells me it won't be, almost never is. I'm guessing I won't use it more than 10% of the time on the water.
Here's why: I hope I can fish topwater 20% of the time. I hope when they aren't on topwater they bite a swimbait or crankbait, lets say 30% here. I love to flip/pitch and would spend the whole day doing that but lets say 30% of the day. Always gotta throw a spinnerbait or chatterbait just to see, 10% or more. Only human gotta eat, ok thats like 3 seconds forget it. Gotta try something new and oh yeah where's that gaudy looking A-Rig?
Furthermore, it should be a seasonal lure like summer peak thru early fall. Do what you want guys but keep an open mind. It may not be as good or as bad as we think.

Well, I took the plunge and ordered a couple. Plan to use them when trolling for stripe bass on the Hudson. Might try on a lake or the river once bass season opens. Not sure on that but I can see where the smallies will like it when water is clear. Also the guy I placed order with just got laid off and making baits is his income now so that little extra incentive got me to give it a try. I may try on Champlain. My thought is to use like squid rig for Tuna. Several teaser baits with no hooks and one bait with a single hook. Could work and would be legal.

Another nice day in the low 40's today and ice off the pond on the golf course nearby. Sooooooooooooooo..... Had to take the A rig for a ride. Using my stripe bass spinning rod and reel I gave it a whirl. Damn that thing is heavy and sounds like a bass breaking on bait when it hits the water with a big splash. All the subtlety of throwing a hand full of golf balls into the drink.
But I tell you what, you got to see this thing coming through the water with 5 swim baits to appreciate it. I can see why the bass go nuts. Down side is it weeds up in a heart beat and sinks like a rock. But if you start reeling right away and keep off the bottom the think looks awesome in clear water. The KVD square bill got wet too. That's going to be fun to use too. It scoots along the bottom when reeled fast but has a very enticing wobble when pulled super slow. It can even be waked. No hits but was fun to make a few casts until it was time to hit the local watering hole to get in the race pool for next week. Not a bad day.
