That was one of 55 that day and that was a typical size. It has been a fabulous fall and I am still catching them and perch.

It's not that I'm nosy, well I guess I am, but what water temp. and depth were the majority of the 55 lurking in?
Nice photo!

A buddy of mine says the fishing has been good on Lake Winnisquam as well. The clear water smallmouth lakes are great right until ice up. Big catches like Nate describes are not uncommon once you figure out where they are. Usually its a basin area at the end of a drop or big underwater flats adjacent to underwater humps.
I'd be happy to just have some ice and nice meal of perch or crappie right now.

A guy over on the Bass Cat forum was posting pictures of 5 and 6 lb smallies they were catching out of Lake Erie a week or so ago. These things were huge!

The smallmouth on the St. Lawrence were in 8 to 15 feet on rock near deep drops -hard to believe but they were in feeding on crawfish, water temp was 41 in the AM then 43 by mid day. On Lake Memphremagog they were mixed with the perch in 35 to 44 feet, water temp was 39 in the AM and 41 by mid day. All smallies and perch were on hair jig, 3 inch kitech craws on 1/4 ox lead head and 1/4 oz kastmaster slab spoon. Bigger smallmouth came from St Lawrence .

A five pound smallie caught by Bill Decoteau on Dec 5t on St Lawrence. He was very excited. He did write an article about the day, soon to be published. He also did an artcle on our day at Memphremagog for Northlands magazine to be out in the January issue. Attachments:

We were perch fishing on Memphremagog, the few Smallmouth caught were mixed with the perch. On the St Lawrence we were in Canadian / Indian reservation water which you can catch smallies anytime. Went to Champlain today for perch (Sunday with Jimmy Kennedy) very cold in the morning 4 degrees but it warmed to 23 degrees. The water temp was from 35 in areas to 38. We caught some smallies, perch and Jimmy caught a 10.24 lb laker on a drop shot on the very last cast
