We got out on Montauk Monday for our annual stripe bass fishing trip. We did OK with 12 bass in the boat and 3 blues. We were in between early/late fall runs so size really suffered but we did OK but had to work for them. Few pictures below. Fish on! Lighthouse looking over Mecca Couple nice bass. Our catch for the day Carl lands a nice one in close quarters with other boats. 2011 trip in the books for this years crew (Angelo, Rich, Carl, me, Mike.)

That's some good eatin' fish you got there Brian! Striper eats as good as anything. Bluefish are good too if bled, iced, and grilled while still fresh. Good for you!

Bass and Blue fillets on the grill yesterday. Left overs made a fine chowder tonight. Love fish! We find if we wrap bluefish in aluminum foil, make a sauce (white wine, butter, Old Bay Spice), and put thick slices of onion on top then wrap, blue fish is very tasty.

Retirement is treating you well! Black bass one week, striped bass the next. Ahhh.

Good catch! What are the rules in Long Island Sound about keeping stripers in terms of size and number? I know the rules vary by jurisdiction.
Bob(rvq) said that you were an excellent cook. If you can cook bluefish to be enjoyable, that is really impressive.

On the charter we are allowed two bass 28" or longer. Last year the fish we got were bigger but we still had fun. It is a lot of work and I hurt for two days after our outing.
Yes, fishing/traveling to Montauk off peak is a big plus of retirement. Everyone should do this at least one. Get 6 guys and you get plenty of time to fish and keeps the expenses down to about $200 a person give or take. It's a long trip but made it home in about 5 1/2 hours with 3 stops and that was with hitting the city at a little after 4pm. Usually we are off the island by 3:00 to avoid rush hour. We got lucky.
