I got in touch with Stacy Twiggs at BFN for information about setting up a Jr Club. He got me to the site and I downloaded the initial info. I'm also going to contact some of the other state directors to get insight and helpful info. Anyone wanting to help can contact me at opsarge@earthlink.net or 802-282-3471. I'll put together a plan and present it at our next Rutland Bass meeting if thats okay with you Brock. Bill

The documents for the Central Vermont Junior Bassmasters has been sent to both the Rutland and Lake Dunmore Club presidents for review. I have contacted the Brandon Public Library and they will give us free access on Tuesdays to hold meetings. Once the documents have been approved I will send copies to all the youth that showed interest to see how many we sign and get things rolling.

With a tremendous effort from Brock we got the youth club off the ground. We had 6 boys show up and join on the 12th at the joint youth and Rutland BASS meeting. Since then 2 more have joined. The paperwork is on it's way to BASS and we are scheduling a joint work weekend with Rutland BASS to work on the conservation project for Lake St Catherine.
The name has been changed to Lakes Region Junior BASS. This youth club is a joint venture with Lake Dunmore Bassmasters. Tournament and other support will be needed from both clubs. Also related help for projects and Opens for both clubs will come from the youth club. Remember we are here to teach fellowship, fishing, fun, conservation and the love of our sport to these youth.

The youth club met in cooperation with Rutland BASS to work on their conservation project, building habitat for Lake St Catherine. 7 boys attended and helped set over 30 Xmas trees in concrete and cinderblocks to be put in the lake next month. Afterwards the boys made their own football jigs. Jigs were pre-poured, the boys painted 3 each and then made up skirts from a kit. They had a great time and increased their tackle at the same time.

I met with Brooke Jette at Middlebury High School Today. They have a Field and Stream Club and are seriously interested in BASS fishing. I will be meeting with the school club on Tuesday at noon to discuss our Junior club and how we can help. They want to get the kids out once before school ends. It needs to be a weekday 4 hour derby. Anyone wih a boat that can support this, let me know, and what day you can help. They will not be active during the summer, so it's a good opportunity for us to pick up more youth members.

I've organized a tourament between Middlebury High and South Royalton High for Wednesday June 8th between 9am and 1pm. Each school will field a 6 person team and meet at Larabee Point around 8:30 am. I need one more boat and captain to support this. Sorry for the short notice, but both schools are trying to get this off the ground before the end of the school year, which is the following week. Vermont Field sports (Greg) will be donating a tackle goodie bag for each angler, and he has hooked us up with a discount on food for a cook out after the tourney. I am requesting each club (Rutland and Lake Dunmore) donate $25.00 each to cover the cost of food. Middlebury High will provide snacks and drinks for the water and the cook out. This should generate a couple more members for the our Junior Club. Anyone that can help, call me at 282-3471.

The first Junior club tourney was held Saturday out of Lapham's Bay. Six boys attended and a good time was had by all. Zackery Quesnel won with a 5 bass limit of 11.49 lbs, he also had lunker with a 3 1/2 lber. 5 out 6 boys weighed in fish. Novce fisherman gained some new knowledge and all boys gain eperience that should help in future outting to include the Junior State Team Qualifier on Sunday the 24th out of Lapham's Bay.

The junior club held it's second tourney Sunday 8/21 at Lake Dunmore. The kids had a good time even though no keepers were caught just pike, perch and small bass. Thanks to Eric Rasmussen and John Quesnel for their support as boat captains.
