It's been a while since I've posted. VTbass and VTbasser have been doing all of the heavy lifting. Thanks guys.
This spring I've been busy trying to track down the mythical 9" pumpkinseed. Hoping to enter one in the VTMAP. Well, I'm pretty much defeated on that score. If I get one now it will be just a fluke. In fact I've only come close three times (2 ea. 8.5" and a whopper at 8.75"). But it has been a lot of fun and a learning curve to climb as well.
The CT river has finally settled down quite a bit . Too, much high , dirty, cold water all spring. It would just begin to clear up and the next weather maker would come along and "poof" back to square one. It was 65 degrees and slightly turbid yesterday. I took the boat out, spent a few hours in a setback of the West River, then went up the CT several miles. Fished gravel bars for smallies and hopefully a rogue fallfish. I've seen the mounds the fallfish build to spawn on for years on a few gravel bars up there. The smallies were very cooperative, hitting tubes and TX rigged Zoom finesse worms in 5' to 8'. The fallfish were no shows. A couple of big rockies stretched my string as well. Over all a beautiful early summer day on the river. I caught and released at least one crappie, pike, 'gill, 'seed, Lm, Sm, rockie and yellow perch. Multi-species Rules!!!
Over Memorial Day weekend I put on the hip boots and went panfishing. These big 'gills put a bend in a light action spinning rod!
Feeder creeks create gravel bars. Find them and find smallies.
Like this stout fellow.
A typical southern NH access area.....yikes! Thanks VTF&W for providing quality ramps!
Big rockies like a slow rolled #3 Mepps. The only color needed on the river.
A classic (but very obvious) gravel bar. Find the more obscure ones .
