I have used fluorocarbon for leaders but have not filled a spool with it since I tried some Vanish several years ago. For me Vanish did not work well. It was way too stiff and had memory issues. I am going to give fluorocarbon another shot this year. I will probably get BPS or Cabela's line. Is there any reason to go with a more expensive brand name line? I figure BPS and Cabela's is made by one of the major companies anyway.
Any tips?

I started using the BPS XPS flouro last year and had great luck with it, even on spinning rods. When using Flouro, make sure to get some line conditioner. I use Ardent and I have also seen the KVD stuff. It helps make the line softer and more user friendly. It is a must, especially on spinning reels. None of it is cheap but the XPS isn't too bad of a price.

I am with vtbass on this one. I use braid on a frog rod and flipping rod. I only use mono on a top water and a couple of spinning rods although I plan to start using floro or a co-polymer on those this year. Everything else has floro. I have tried vanish and I did not like it very well. Tried p-line 100% this year and I really liked it. Price wise it is not bad either. The BPS stuff looks less expensive until you figure out the price per yard, and then it is about the same price as p-line and some others. I am also a big fan of buying stuff from tackle warehouse. The free shipping is a big help.

I can't ship a feather for free. No employee discount here Tackle Warehouse ships UPS so that helps keep me employed.

I have been using vanish for a while on my drop shot rod and it has served me well. This year I stepped down to 6lb test though so we shall see. I use braid with a floro leader for everything else.

I'm just the opposite. Other than my heavy cover flipping rods with braid, and a single topwater rod spooled with 10-lb mono for open water fishing (spooks, PopR's, sammy's), all my rods are fluro. I crank with it, throw football head jigs, worms. For cranking, I've been using Seaguar 10-lb and I love it. I have Berkley 100% fluro for my other stuff and it's great. More sensitive, no stretch and tough. Any reason why Seaguar for cranks and Berkley for other methods? Berkley not good for cranking?

I am going to give the hi-visible yellow braid with a leader a try. Do you use the "leader material" floro or the larger spools of floro. I have wondered if there is much if any difference in the two. "leader material" is much more expensive.

Nitro, I couldn't make that link work but I did go to Probass.net and found the protips section. There is a lot of good reading there. I found 2 articles on Fluorocarbon.
Thanks for the link.

My dad has been using the hi vis stuff w/ floro leader for a while, he love it because he can't see green line. We have always used the "leader" Fluorocarbon. I think it is a bit stiffer. I have occasionally used "regular" fluorocarbon and I have not really noticed a difference. I would like to know more about this, Perhaps a marketing ploy? Lots of floro leader material is meant for salt water fishing so perhaps that is the difference, though I don't know what i would be...

What kind of knot are you using to tie the leader to the braid?

He convinced me the hi-vis was the way to go last fall. I see the yellow a lot better too. Must be the age thing again Uni to Uni
