I had a few break offs last year that I couldn't explain and am wondering if my knot was the problem. Maybe I just don't/didn't retie enough - who knows? Anyway, I found the North American Fisherman's knot war results. www.fishingclub.com/ExtraContent/ExtraContentDetail.aspx?id=146070 I am going to try out the Fish-N-Fool knot on light line this year. Anyone use this knot? George

Great topic George. I have never tried it before, but after watching that I may just try it. I have always been a big fan of the improved cinch knot. I am not a big fan of the palomar. I think re-tying is over rated. If you check your line, and don't feel any nicks why bother?

What line did you have the break off problems with?
When I started using braid, I had a lot of break offs when I was tying an improved cinch knot. After reading the directions that came with the line, I switched to the palomar and haven't had any problems since.
I rarely retie unless I can feel some nicks in the line.

I had some issues with an 8 lb co-poly -- Cabela's I think. I switched to 10lb XL and didn't have as many issues. But I still had a couple of break offs. I am going to spool up some of the 8 lb and try a different knot. I was using the palomar knot. I have cut braid off on rocks and pulled the knot out of the hook eye. usually not many issues with braid. Just watch out for those pesky loops on a spinning reel.

I'm a big fan of the palomar knot. The one thing I always do before tightening the knot onto the hook/lure is moisten the line. Especially if it is Flourocarbon. I have never had any surprise breakoffs with this knot.

palomar knot is all I use. Have never had one fail. moisten before tighten and then tie a overhand at the end. simple and strong. I like that its double wrapped as opposed to a single.

I usually stick to a palomar with braid and a palomar or improved clinch with fluoro or mono. The only time I re tie is when I use 6lb test for dropshotting.
