Wednesday 10/13 was a perfect day weatherwise. Plenty of sunshine, light winds and air temps 58-62. Water was crystal clear with temps ranging from 58-61. My buddy Ron from Troy, NY was up for his final trip of the year with hopes of fishing Wed.-Fri. My last outing last week with Mike did not leave me with great expectations. Mike and I pounded the banks and came up with 6 fish in 6 hours. All pretty much random catches with no apparent pattern
Being stubborn, I decided that we would pound the banks again in rocky boittomed shoreline in 3-5. The very first spot was our best of the day with both LM & SM stacked up in a very small area of shoreline. This was the closest to a Fall bite that I've seen this year. We took 15 keepers out of that spot on the first stop.
Trying to replicate the pattern we moved several similar areas, but never found the action we had at the beginning. We caught another 8 fish in 4 other locations. Reluctantly, we finished our day at our starting point and collected another 6 keepers. In all 29 fish, mostly SM, with the largest a 3.5 lb LM. The beauty of the day was awesome. A day that you hate to have end and we caught fish too.
The next day we again launched out of St. Albans Bay heading to pound the banks again. The wind had different ideas. We were drifting so fast it was very difficult to fish plastics, which is my preferred way to fish.In addition, the constant need to adjust our position with the trolling motor made things much like work. Fishing should be fun, not work.We caught 3 fish in about an hour, but the wind was getting worse. Lake Carmi here we come. The wind was much more favorable there. We fished the wind blown West shore heading North (wind Southeast) in 3-5'. In 3 1/2 hours we caught 15 SM with biggest just under 3 lbs. All nicwe solid, healthy fish.
You all know what Friday was like. We didn't venture forth. Hey two days out of three ain't bad.
