I hit South Pond Sunday and it was 35 degrees at 5:30, but no one was there except a pair of loons. It was a couple days before stocking but great to be out in the boat rowing in the (for once) calm morning air. Did a circuit around the pond trolling without catching or seeing anything. But on the second time around I hooked a nice brown that actually towed me and my boat around a little. Pretty good for a 17" chunky 2-1/2 pounder. But my boat is fine lined ultralight that I built myself -- it weighs 27 pounds. Anyway the fish tangled my second trolling line, and after landing it, I spent a little while untangling the two. When I got to my second lure, it wasn't actually my lure, so I started pulling on that line to get it up off of its snag on the bottom. Didn't want the loons tangling in it. The branch it was stuck on gave way from the bottom. But it turned out not to be a branch, but a fishing rod! And in pretty good shape. I was getting cold so I called it a day. Not a bad first outing, even though short -- a beautiful setting, a nice fish, and a new rod. Can't complain! Fish and rod "caught", below Attachments:
