Armed with a couple of #2 Mepps, a Beetle Spin, a high dollar finesse jerkbait (Viva), boots, and two light action spinning rods spooled with 6 lb. test off I went. In pursuit of a fallfish. Never before have I intentionally tried to catch a fallfish. But I've always enjoyed landing a few each season while trout or bass fishing. I set out to one of the Harriman Reservoirs tribs where I'd landed a good one last year. The SM bass had a good time biting the Beetle Spin. Then I switched to the Mepps and the rainbow trout were whacking it (until the sun went in). Finally an 11" fallfish, target species, hits the Mepps. Then I tried the jerkbait. A hold over brown trout hit it, about 14". I Watched as two others rolled on it. Then I went back to the Mepps and finally got two more fallfish both around 10". So....it ain't so easy to get a fallfish . In three hours I caught and released 7 SM up to 2 lb., 2 rainbows, the brown, and kept one badly hooked rainbow.

Hey Brian - at least you hit your target species, just not your target length! Don't give up. Those big fallfish are out there. If you can't do it over there, come on over to Otter Creek. I'll show you a couple stretches where it shouldn't be too hard to do!
