Last three Friday nights I’ve been fishing from 5:30 to dusk from Larrabee’s.
First two or three were probably the best evening fishing I’ve had during the summer months.
Last trip was not as good though. Water much dirtier anywhere but around the Lachutte. Fish were not there but I got some bites and enjoyed the peace and quiet and nobody moved in on me.
Saturday afternoon my wife wanted to go in the boat and do some fishing. I asked her if she wanted her hook and bobber set up or would she like to do some bass fishing. She said she wanted to catch something big.
Tied on the hot swim jig combo on her favorite rod and a chatter bait on another. We arrived just as guys were leaving the ramp from the Reynolds Boats tourney.
A bit on the breezy side so I made the first stop where it was a bit protected from a strong south wind. Stopped the boat a ways away from the weed line I wanted to fish and handed my wife the swim jig. To my surprise she jumped up on the back deck ready to go. Usually she lets me find them before she joins in. This time was different. She made her first cast and I heard her say “got one!”
Can’t ask for a better start than that! Took me a bit to get going but eventually I hooked up after loosing a few and then hit a flurry where we got five from a small pocket in the weeds and a few here and there on buzzbaits.
She wanted a nice spot to spread some of her mom and dads ashes so we went down by the fort to have a little ceremony. First though we had a panic attack when we could not find the container in the safe place where I had put it. Fortunately I found it but not where I left it. Turns out she moved it to what she thought was a better spot but forgot she did😏
She picked the last spot but I suggested we go elsewhere being the area has not been good lately. May have been the best overrule of all time. She got one more and it was her biggest bass ever!
4-10 but just a fraction of an inch short of Master Angler size. Probably going to be hard to top that memory but if she fished as good as she did Saturday I know she’ll do it, so long as she sticks with me😉
