Havenโt been out much since Memorial Day and when I do itโs usually windy as hell! Couple times had to forget about Champlain and go elsewhere but even there wind was a factor.
Fished Hortonia one day when it was blowing real bad. Managed to get a lot of bites from some decent post spawn bass and way more from pike. First time I really got a lot of pike there and some good ones at that. Bass were in all three phases and found some beds with two on them. One bed I caught three off of! A dink charged in and grabbed my tube just as the female was getting ready to bite. But eventually I got her and her male partner too! I was glad I went there, surely better than getting beat up fishing Champlain.
Another day found me on Dunmore. I rode around the lake checking it out and it was not too bad so I launched. Then of course all hell broke loose, but it was manageable and fishing was excellent! Think most bass were males guarding fry and they did not like my Bomber Long A near their offsprings. Had two right off that were close to four but they looked full of eggs still. The stickbait worked so well I never tried anything else but a tube where I could make out a bed or something that looked fishy. Only caught two bass on it and probably a dozen Rockies including a 10.5โ model which gave me 11 species so far for Master Angler 2020.
Seems most Saturdays the weather is a bit better when we go kayaking ๐คฌ but it makes the Mrs. happy when I spend the better of the weekend days with her. And as they say.....Even been managing so good ones from the kayak๐
Also did some shore fishing with kids since my last post. We hit the gills just before the spawn. Good thing because they spawned out quick and moved offshore and now out to the main river so it seems.
Gavin got a PB at 9.75โ
Been trout fishing a lot too and catching some beauties from the trophy trout stretches on Otter and East Creeks.
And I have been to Champlain. But it seems Iโm getting my @$$ kicked more than Iโm kicking @$$, but every once in a while you get one that makes it worth the trouble.
4-8 on my favorite chatterbait. Truth be known I was hoping for a cat along a wind blown bank where a mudline has formed,
But on Sunday things actually worked more or less how they should.
Found a feeding frenzy early Sunday morning where bass and pickerel were hammering alewives. Such a beautiful thing if you are on the right end of the food chain. If your not you are having a bad day. I was on the right end. My frogs and toads were not. I now have frogs that sink and amputated toads. Lots of pickerel but enough bass to make up for it. Fish were in the thick stuff and shallow. Too deep just pickerel. Yeah, I know but I did say things worked more or less the way they should . That is what I was getting at. A good toad and frog bite is all you can ask for so even though I had to leave early I left happy. And the wind? Oh it blew but not until I had my fun๐.
4-6 on a toad. No tourney boats around so I took a pic. Not busy for the first Sunday of bass season. Covid-19???
Iโm off next week so hope I have something to post. Weโll see. Been a little weird as of late.
