Had high hopes for the weekend and some big prespawn bass. By 10 a.m. Friday I gave up and went with the flow. My plan going in was to try spots that typically have alewives this time of year and if I did there would be some big bass chasing them. Nope. Three bass was all got before I decided to take what the lake was giving and that was pike. Good ones. Two 9-8, one bigger that flopped out of the boat nearly taking a rod with it as I searched for my measuring tape. Spent most of Friday looking for more pike around Benson. They were around and so was everything else! Lots of life everywhere. Spawning gar. 42.5” on a squarebill. They were hitting Spinnerbait but not hooking up. Carp going crazy in the shallows. Drum everywhere. Got one Drum on a squarebill 😎 Probably the best bad day I’ve ever had! 25.13” just big enough for Master Angler Was real nice catching the walleye. Biggest one I have caught in 30 years from the Lake. And that was with my Dad😇. He told me I’d never catch one using a crankbait then. And what did I get this one on? Yup a crankbait . Had some fun up on the main lake today. Some prespawn largemouth in Bulwagga but not enough to say it was good. Found lots of smalllies north of the bridge. Most were males but some females that tipped the scale at 3.0. Jerkbaits mostly, tubes and Neds too and a reliable old school lure. Water temp 51-58. Should be good fishing on the main lake for a bit before they all bed. Saw one on a bed and one very deep bed that looked occupied. Hope to get back before they bed up. .

Pike action is good action! It's pretty easy to get those gar to hit, but a hookup is rare, at least one that stays hooked all the way to the boat. Good job! Seems like your only missing a catfish . Next week probably. Good photos, your wife must have been on board. Not sure about the beard though....90 degrees out this week . Good post.
