That’s a good start to the year B! Something always seems to go wrong first time out, doesn’t it? First fish of the year on the first cast from the boat? I don’t think I’ve ever pulled that off from the boat or from the shore! Must be a Brian thing😉
The Trap bite has been off this year for me though my first bass of the year came on a chartreuse black back 1/2 oz Trap. The shore fishing has been the worst ever. Fish just don’t seem to be around. They certainly aren’t willing to chase that’s for sure. Have had 0 followers all year. Perch and crappie have been sparse too. Yellows have spawned so the chance to get big spawners has passed. Will have to try and pick some off as they make their way out to the main river. Hope to catch some crappie soon.
Off tomorrow and had planned on launching for the first time but weather looks awful. Maybe Saturday morning and then an afternoon trip to Raponda with the wife for trout. Looking for the 2 yr old bows.
Champlain? Don’t know when. Campground is closed until whenever. Still going to make the trip north but not as much unless campground opens. May have to break down and buy an NH license. Been about five years so I think I stuck to it pretty good.
Thanks for the report! Good news hard to come by these days.

Sounded like a great first day. Hoping to head up soon. Got the boat out of storage and did some maintenance. Just got to load it up and be ready to go.
Still had last years lures on? You don't clean reels, change line or fluro leaders over winter? Am I the only one that does that?

I don’t automatically change my line to start the year. Reason I don’t is for one I change it for fall fishing and two I tend to get more backlashes in the beginning of the year until I get the rust out. Cleaning reels is a must for me when fishing dirty water. Man was my stuff dirty from last year! Years ago I tried floro. Line seemed to break down much faster than mono. It worked nicely when it was fresh and did what it was supposed to. Being cheap I never used it again until last year. No issues until this spring when I tried to tie a new leader. Floro leader kept breaking on the Uni knot connection. Figured something was up. On a straight pull 10 lb floro was breaking like 6 lb test. Glad it was a small spool . I think the floro experiment is over for me.

Lately, they hadn't much fall use...so good to go come spring. By June I'll start checking them out again as needed.

Since I obsess about fishing all winter i clean my reels. Put on new floro for cranking reels. ( trilene 100% floro I have great experiences w) usually in the winter there are trilene deals getting one get another free kinda stuff. I've switched to using floro leaders. I'm learning the super fg knot which is not really something you wanna tie on the water unless you practice. I still havent gotten it down yet. ( I said I'd learn over the winter but I didnt) my friend has had amazing success w the floro leaders on super fg knot. I use the double uni, but w heavy braid some smaller guides dont love it, hence my learning this new knot. I literally got schooled for the first time on a chatterbait by my friend w a floro leader. I tried to do everything he was doing. His original chatterbait was barely white, barely a skirt. Hell it was stained off white now. Same trailer same speed retrieve. Back of the boat front. U name it! He still out caught me 3 to 1. ( I'll never let it happen again) I have fished w straight braid to chatterbaits as long as I've learned them from Roy and I never thought I needed a leader. Clear or stained water. Maybe it was just one wierd day. Anyways.. I'll experiment more on that, but it's probably leader only for me for vertical baits. Jig, texas, finesse, swimbaits , jerk etc. I also like the ability to turn my braid reel and rod into a top water setup at any time, cant do that w a straight floro set up. End rant
