Made plans to take a vacation day for Monday 10/28 so I could be available to work Saturday morning and then be with my dad Saturday evening and Sunday if need be. My wife went down ahead of me and told me he was okay and there was plenty of people at the house with him and she felt the crowd was beginning to get on his nerves. You’d have to know my dad to understand him. Then again that wouldn’t help either. We all love him but he is complicated!😉🙄❤️
Plan was to meet Brandon Monday at 7:30-8 if all went well. Glad it did. We had a good day😎
Nice light breeze blowing, 50 degree air temp and water temps 51-54👍 Water as clear as it’s been since spring and still rising, up at least a foot from its lowest point of early fall.
As usual what worked the last two times didn’t work near as well this time. Some of the better spots of late produced nothing. Seemed fish were much more scattered. We found them on banks, inside weedlines, outside weedlines, thick weed and roaming in open water. Quite different than recent trips where nearly every bite was on the bank or and inside edge.
First bass came from the third stop on a golden shiner pattern swim jig with a small swim bait trailer. Next few were on a swimbait of similar color but it became clear by mid morning that the color of the day was white. Brandon got going with a chatterbait catching bass and lots of toothy critters. The chatterbait (or Brandon) did a good job of distracting the evil creatures while I worked on picking of bass.
We made some moves that didn’t work but some did and kept fairly busy catching fish until early evening quitting around 5:25.
We had a nice mix of fish and some decent quality and a few doubles to make things fun.
Our best double included a 4-6 and a topwater bite!
A few nice pike and a mess of others were killing Brandon’s chatterbait.
Even managed a 4-1 smallie 😎
We met an Angler who is also a forum member who said he is a regular reader and enjoys the posts. We didn’t zoom in just in case he told his wife he was working hard all day😉😆
Nice to meet members and talk some fishing and even better when I hear the things they read helps them catch more fish.
Glad to have Brandon along for company and to help land fish. My knees feel great today, thanks!
Lake was in real nice shape except for lots of weed that has disappeared suddenly. Typical Champlain. Some nice stuff to fish around in some places though, just have to look for it.
Nice to fish on such a quite day. Two other boats were all we saw all day. Hope to get up again this weekend🤔 we’ll see.
