Got up for the long weekend Wednesday. Thursday was a work day in the am, relax in the afternoon. It was freaking hot! Friday and Saturday fished out of the back of Jim's boat though mine is finally back to 100% (I hope) with new surge brake unit. Both days were tough. Friday I ended up with I think 7 total including a 3 1/2 and a nice 5 3/10s LM. But had to work for them. We got to an area we believed the FLW event was won from and started working a large weed flat. Got the chatter bait working and using method Roy mentioned and within 10 minutes hook into a large cat fish going 8-9 lbs that put up a big fight. Finally dispatched it with Jim's help and on the next cast bang, the 5 3 hit. She fought hard too but we netted her. She had been caught a few times already this year and had more holes in her face then then the kid serving fries at local fast food counter. We made a couple more drifts and Jim picked up a couple. That was the end of our fish for that day. We fished from south of Mill Bay to north of paper mill. It was hot. We were on water about 6:15 off after 3. I was making a steak dinner for Jim as it was his birthday. If you want some good steaks, I highly recommend Buxton's in Orwell. He had just cut NY strip steaks and they were both tender and delicious. Helped I didn't over cook too!
Saturday on the water about same time and started even further south frogging. We had some blow ups, a break off, but they weren't committing. Tried another area and picked up one before working our way north. We frogged another area and I picked one up but poor Jim was getting blow up after blow up but no hook ups. We kept working our way north all the way to just south of bridge. I managed four all day, nothing big and Jim only 1 or 2. It was tough though others did well from a couple posts I saw on FB. Think I caught the four bass on three baits ranging from chatter bait, frog, and a swim jig. Was a weird day. We got off early as I had stuff to do and turned out to be a good thing. As we were taking out we could see a huge storm rolling in north where we were fishing. We were spared other then some rain a brief hard wind but Roy got rocked. Had our annual fish fry that night and weather cooperated at least.
