Thursday Friday last week

Got out a couple days last week solo which also happened to be the first two days of the FLW Pro event out of Plattsburg. Thursday was one of those strange rare days when things go more right then wrong. Launched about 6:30 and headed south of Plunder bay. Started with a buzz frog in a small weed bed that I fished with Jim White the weekend before. No interest in the buzz frog so took out a froggy. First cast, working it slow a big hit and hooked up. A nice 5 even to start day. No other action there and worked some shore line area and shallow weeds with various baits. Hooked into a 4 even about 45 minutes after first fish on a chatterbait. Nothing else caught in that area and started working my way north going a couple hours with nothing happening. Then started working favorite shallow shore line with rock, wood, grass, lay downs, a little bit of everything. Got into a bunch of fish catching 7-8 more by mid afternoon and three more good ones going 4, 4lb 13 oz, and a 3 1/2 for a total of 21 2. Most all came on a craw. For some perspective, the leaders of FLW event fished Ti area south also and only one weighed more at 22 plus (another Bass Cat guy). In fact, no one weighed more then 20 something the rest of the four days. So what I thought was a good day was actually a great day. Had to work for them but it was worth it.

Friday - weather was about exactly the same as Thursday but nothing that worked Thursday worked Friday. Managed 9-10 again but size was hard to come by with the biggest two weighing 3 1/2. Rest were smaller and came on a good size swim bait shallow or jigs on wood, weed, or rock. Pretty uneventful day but it's nice to finally start getting out more often. Water was pretty stained but I like it that way. Temps varied from 69 to 76. Weed is starting to fill in nice and the frog bite doesn't seem to be off due to stained water. If they are in the mood, they will find it. Heading back up tomorrow for long weekend. Not sure how much fishing I'll get in, the 4th is kind of a social event at the marina. Got some chores around camp to get done too.

I knew you were having a great day even if you didn’t! I did think any of the FLW guys would beat that weight. My instincts told me to did what you were doing but I didn’t . I stayed with the deepest weeds o could find thinking that’s wheee the biggest fish would be. Also tried to make what worked last year work even though my instinct told me it wouldn’t.
New rule for me. Listening to my instinct from now on even if I question it. It worked for me yesterday 😉

Totally agree on the instinct. My friend Jim makes fun of me for having so many rods on deck. But it pays when you see something you want to fish and need a particular bait (in your mind anyway) and don't have time to switch baits. Picking up a rod (even when they tangle frequently) is still way faster. It was amazing what a difference a day made though.
