Finally got out today in the boat with my fishing partner and the kids. What a nice day and everything came together today. I had nothing on the schedule, the weather seemed to cooperate and we are a week out from the LCI. We launched out of Kill Kare about 1100 and just needed to shake the Tahoe down...Get the Winter gas loosened up. I also replaced my prop this fall and had a hydroplane attached as well, so I was curious as to how she would run with these additions. I am very pleased with how everything performed, so lets say 1st mission was a success...Now on to the fishing. We stayed mostly in the bay and worked shore lines and different islands. Nothing going on squarebill cranks or bladed jigs. Then we started dropping Senkos on structure and then we started catching them. Very light bites, but quality 3 lb SMB. Moving to georgia shore and caught a couple on jerkbaits and saw some monsters roaming on the bottom in 12 FOW. Nothing on Ned rigs. Broke out the whopper plopper and caught 2 SMB and then nothing for a while. My partner caught a 4.8 lb LMB on a senko on a shoreline rockpile and that was the fish of the day, she was a beauty and looked like she was full of eggs. Its hard to tell but i'd say they are coming into the spawn now for LMB, but the smallies up here look like they are in pre...and they are all over the place...usually if you can see/catch a SMB, he has some buddies with him, but that was not the case today...very isolated with one here...one there, etc. With all that said, we had a whale of a time just getting out...our gear is GTG and we learned a few things today...So I just hope the weather stabilizes a touch, but hope is not a method up here for the most part. I'll be prepared to fish the conditions next weekend and junk fish if I have to...
