Hadn’t been in the Ti area for a few weeks. Made a trip to the bridge one Sunday and ended up on Hortonia due to a nasty north wind on Champlain. Next time out started on Chittenden and ended up at South Bay and fished north to Benson. Chittenden was okay and with hindsight I probably should have made a day of it rather than a morning but when the wind kicked up and killed my finesse bite I headed west thinking the wind would work for me on Champlain. Little did I know the wind would die completely and I’d be drop shot fishing the ledges south of Benson. Drop shot worked well but my best bites did come on moving baits though they were few.
Anyway moving on to last weekend I was shocked to see how low the water was. Could even tell in the early morning darkness that the water was down.
Had to find a place to duck the stiff wind early on.
Morning bite was weak for topwater but okay once I put the swim jig in the water. Nothing big,a few stout pike but action was steady.
Moved on to other spots between Kirby Point and Fort View and found more of the same, a few bass and a lot of pike. When the pike began to outnumber bass I switched to a spinnerbait in hopes that I could save some Tackle and at worst use up some old SB’s that had lost their shine. Great plan. Never lost another lure but did get two old SB’s broken in half.
Truly epic pike bite for me. Never have seen them in schools before Sunday. Seemed to be keying in on what appeared to be gizzard shad 2-4” in length. Think the spinnerbait mimicked the size and flash of the forage.
Five or six in the 30-35” range and a bunch of 24-29”
pike. Lot of fun and in between even got some bass👍
Sorry but no fish pictures today, too busy catching 😁
Do have some low water pics to share though
