More great weather this weekend save for a stray t storm that we narrowly avoided at Larrabee’s on Saturday evening. A few more like this and maybe we can all forget how miserable the spring was. Nah, probably not.
I let my wife pick what we would do on Saturday. Never would have said that had I known she wanted to go berry picking🙄. Anyway being that I try to be a good husband I tried to sound enthusiastic when I said suuuuure🙁
On the way back she said I have an idea, “how would you like to have a nice early dinner and then we go to the lake”.
My response was “ I would but we have to be mindful of t storms because they say there is a slight chance which means 90% in the Champlain Valley”. That’s what I said but I was thinking can we skip dinner and go now but I knew that was not going to work.
Headed over after checking the radar. Yup, there was big one coming. Didn’t need radar just two eyes, thing was huge couldn’t miss it. Figured we could always turn back.
Launched from Larrabee’s around 4:15. Lake still low despite the rain. Color was very good as far as we could see. Started near the ramp hoping for pike. No luck. Kept going and hit some bass. Relocated but didn’t dare go far, could feel temp drop and see rain just to our north. A few more bass and a lightning bolt. Headed in quick and trailered the boat. Wife asked why I didn’t tie off to the dock. Told her to wait a minute. She saw why when the waves started crashing into the dock. Half and hour of intense weather and we were back out. Water got muddied up a bit and lots of loose weed where we had left off so we hit a little protected pocket. Hooked up two chunks right away. Rigged a small swim jig for the wife. She hooked up right away too😎
Tried the west side a bit with no bites before going back east to watch the sunset. Nothing better than watching the sunset on a calm night and catching bass on topwater baits.
Had to sneak out early Sunday because I was told maybe even warned to get some sleep and to not disturb my wife by getting up in the middle of the night to go fishing. Being she doesn’t read this I can say I was on the water before sunrise and catching fish from our best spot the night before.
Had to envy those who spent the night on the lake.
But the day was quite nice too!
Had a good start with topwater but hit a lull for a bit until I found some more water that wasn’t all blown up from the storm Saturday evening.
Got it going and kept it going with a swim jig or swim bait until early afternoon when some good cloud cover made me take the toad rod back out. Almost didn’t but I have learned to listen to that little voice in my head.
20” 4-8
21.25” 5-15
Used the toad when the clouds blocked the sun and got six more on it but the swim jig caught twice that. 10” worm got one and a Ned Rig the same but it seemed like neither worked as well as they should have so I put them away.
Fish were out on the edge early but moved shallower and shallower thru the day. None in the cheese but some very close.
Lake still low, rain only stopped it from dropping more.
Color overall very good and still good clean weeds most places. Cheese mats still shrinking.
Another good day of weather and fishing. May not be able to get back for a while so it was nice to have a good day.
