We’ll back to work now☹️after two weeks off. Second week wasn’t as good as the first but that’s okay, it was still good overall. Would have been hard to live up to the first week anyway.
Fished the Ti area all week though it was very tempting to run back up to the bridge during the slow times but curiosity kept me looking around the Ti area and wind and waves made sure I stayed put.
Fished every day of the heat wave, some days as long as 12 hours😎. Grueling at times but no regrets. Only had one bad day and that was Tuesday. 82 and humid with a strong south wind all day. That one was tough. Like being in front of a blow drier all day.🙄 Other than that days were fair to good. Fished Saturday evening after taking the day to sightsee and swim in the New Haven river
. Should have stayed at the river! Landed three bass. Missed about 7 blowing up on toads but barely touching the bait😡
Mornings were by far the best and dark to sunrise best of the best. Frogs were key. No fish cruising outside weedbeds. All up inside in the thicker gooey stuff. Never got many bites on frogs once the sun came up though I worked it hard.
4-8 frog fish
4-8 and only 18.5”!😎
Late morning the bite picked back up and continued thru early evening. Was off by 5 every day so not sure if there was an evening bite. Swim jigs, swim baits worked best for moving baits.
Chatterbaits not so good.
Did catch a nice cat that came home for dinner on the chatterbait😎Made two good meals!
When the wind didn’t blow grass jigs were good. Fished finesse stuff too and that was good too as well as a nice break from the heavy stuff. Four inch worms, drop shots and Ned rigs work on Champlain, just have to work them in the right conditions. Did have a little success with toads and buzzbaits too but not as steady as the frog.
Had three bowfin try and kill the frog. Caught this male. Still had a bit of spawning colors.
And yes, the “ frog that doesn’t work” made a comeback 😆👊
No Champlain trip is complete without a lake monster!
29” 12-4👍
Last fish for the week was a 19.5” 3-9 smallie
Well got to go mow two weeks worth of grass. As they say I’d rather be fishing!
