Got a very early start to what was predicted to be a very busy day on the lake with the Elite Series and three other club level tourneys going on down south.
Arrived well before dawn to an empty lot at Larrabee's. Very cool for July at 48. Never checked water temp but the bay was alive with bait and predators. Almost started there but had planned on a familiar spot hoping I would hold finally hit it right.
Arrived at my destination at 4:46
First fish at 4:51!
Lots of life and a few bass were feeding but only one hit. By 5:30 tourney boats were on the way. They all passed by and all passed by a community hole. Being Inwas after anything that wanted to play I took what was given me. Not sure how many I put in the boat but it was a lot and though most weren't what you'd want in a tournament three or four would have done just fine😉
Went cold for a bit checking some places that used to work before getting a frog 🐸 bite going for the first time in forever. Most were the 2.5 lb. size but two were the 3.5-3.75 lb. variety that have been kind of scarce for me lately. Perfect frogging conditions Saturday. Calm, overcast and the right water color most everywhere. Had the wind stayed down and the sun stayed in I may have caught them all day on top.
When the bite changed I switched to a TX rig creature bait and found some fish in deeper weeds for the first time this year. Five to six feet was good, shallower nothing. Strange because the frog bites were <4 ft.
When it really got blowing I switched to pike. Pretty much anything worked anywhere you threw it in the typical pike spots with one exception, my best, or I should say Bri and Di's best pike spot😳
Fished until 3 pm and would have stayed but wanted to leave before the weigh in got started at the ramp. Glad I left though because the wind only got worse and dirtied up the water yet again.
Sunday was a very late being my partner is an older wiser gentleman in his 70's who suffers greatly from back pains. Tried the community hole to start but I think it was too late. Had som bites but they came off.
Tried a nearby area and caught nice pickerel but small bass. Switched to pike and had some fun👍. Not like Saturday but pretty steady.!When the wind played nice we went back to bass. Good conditions and location to bust out the big worm.
Had a couple pick ups and a bite off before catching this wonderful specimen of a bass.
Overall a pretty quiet weekend especially considering all the expected commotion. Only saw maybe six pros and they all started below Benson. A few hit the bay at the Fort late on the way back but briefly. Have high hopes that August will fish like July usually does. We'll see!
Nice new dock and bulkhead at the ramp👍
