Hello everyone
I got out twice in the last three days with the decent weather and having time off...I have never launched/fished out of Malletts until this weekend, so my experience in this area is nil.
3rd July-I went out with the wife and kiddos-to shake down the new hydrofoil...It worked awesome. We stayed in the bay for the most part and I fished a little. The rocky shorelines seemed ideal so I threw the jerkbait out and got some follows from some BIG smallmouth. I tossed in a senko but nothing doing. Sped over to Niquettes bay and fished the reeds...nothing doing. Them I went around to the little bay and caught some very nice LMB...all on jerkbaits. 2.5 hours later we were off the water and headed to the hotel to watch Burlington fireworks.
5th July-out of mallets with my fishing partner rick at 1100 and fished until 4. Several 2.5 and 3 pound SMB. mostly off from horizontal presentations and senkos...we tried the river mouth, but could not get anything going. We fished the causeway and got most of our bites there. The rock walls also produced some very healthy SMB. The bite was all related to solid rock and humps in 15-6 FOW. I fished a lot off the bottom today with a C-Rig and 1 oz tube and didn't get one bite-which I though was real strange. bluebird skies and little wind I thought would drive them down...guess that's what I get for thinking.
We met up with one of rick's buddies out by the causeway and he gave us some great advice about the area, which I really appreciate.
So good news bad news...the hydrofoil cracked, So now I have to go through the nutroll of returning that and getting one that will not break---any suggestions here would be great if you have them...
Going to get my Helix 7 SI soon and I can't wait to pair it with my Minn Kota Terrova...then I can dial in a little more...especially in new waters
Also going to get into a couple of tournaments this season. One out of North Hero in Sept and one out of Malletts in OCT... so there time to get my act together. Hope everyone else is enjoying the conditions and getting quality bites...
I think we are just getting started as the high water should extend the fall season a bit...
