Well, the Bassbuddy crew made another trip up to Carmi. One crewmember has to start school soon and wanted another shot at the walleyes. We arrived to find the parking lot rather full for a weekday. It was rather calm and water temp was still 73 degrees. We set out and found massive amounts of loose floating grass all over the surface. It was a challenge to keep the lines clear while trolling. We did pick up eight 'eyes, four of which were kept as filet donors. We had a chat with a fellow angler with a big Ranger bass boat who mentioned that he had been having a great time playing with the walleyes and that he was nailing them on a Rat-L-trap lure while working the drop offs and weed lines. That's more of a bass lure than a walleye lure but he had been having a catch and release field day with it. Still no bass, but we weren't actually targeting them yesterday. We had a bald eagle patrolling the lake while we fished.
" tight lines to all "

Sounds like a good day BB The only walleyes I have accidentally caught came on a Rat-L-Trap They must not be able to tell it is a bass lure The next time I accidentally catch a keeper walleye I think I will give them a taste test. I hear they are very good

I believe that Perch and Walleye are the tastiest fish. I love catching bass but don't care for the flavor. The nice thing about Carmi is that with the slot limit, you can keep and eat the 15-17 inch fish. The smaller ones are the best eating. The slot requires that 17-19 inches must be released as breeding stock and you can keep one fish 19 " or bigger with a 5 fish a day limit. The minimum length for Walleye everywhere else is 18" with a 3 fish a day limit. There are monster yellow perch there too ! I'm going to field test the Rat-L-Trap next trip up there. If you've never tasted walleye, you're missing out on some great eatin'.
