Sunday was very likely the end of the ice season and to be honest I am sad to see it go so soon. Fishing was just getting good. Seems a new wave of fish have been moving into the setbacks. Big perch are coming in to spawn and crappies are coming in too and apparently in good numbers. I was lucky enough to get two Master Angler perch this weekend which will help towards the new Master Angler Challenge this year. Looking forward to fishing for lake trout at some point this year, maybe this spring, but definitely this fall as they are also one of the five species needed to complete the challenge. Saturday I fished Hunts Meadows and got a 14" yellow perch using medium shiners on tip ups. Really enjoyed using the tip ups and catching fish on the handline and was just as excited catching the big perch as I was for any of the larger species I have caught, maybe even more so because I have not caught many perch over 13" the last several years. Sunday I chose to fish the Retreat Meadows. Had a great last day catching fish and catching up with some old friends who drove up from Westfield Mass to visit. Got to fish with Master B also which is always enjoyable. Fishing was good but sorry to say got even better after Brian left for work. Fished until 4:45 leaving enough time to get home and clean my catch and put stuff away before dark. Had to take inventory when the crappie turned on. Left with a limit of 25 plus a nice mix of perch and gills. 14" 1 lb. 6 oz. YP. Photo courtesy of Master B One season ended yesterday but a new one soon begins. Best of luck to all in 2016. Hope it's your best year ever....................and mine too!
