In the past week... fished Memphremagog, Woodbury Lake (POND!), Mirror Lake (#10) and Waterbury Reservoir. Could the fishing possibly be any slower??? It was like fishing at the nursery with all the dinks you could imagine. It was like the dead sea on all of these waters. Heard there were big bass there but didnt see any! (nor did any trout appear...)... Im just going to stick with Champlain from now on... ;D

;D Nothing like hot summer days with a cold front or two moving through to keep you guessing about where the fish are. Sometimes I think you need to hit them in the head with a jig to get a bite. ;D

Things have slowed down on Champlain too. Had two less than memorable days last week. I've talked with several others who have noticed a real slowdown in the last couple of weeks. Bob

The " Sanman " and I fished Arrowhead for about four hours today. Fishing was very slow. We boated only one smallie and one Largemouth. The Northerns were having fun biting off our spinner baits and plastics. Bunch of mediocre perch as well. It was pretty windy but sure beats sittin' at home.. Thinking about going to Carmi tomorrow for Bass and Walleye. BB

Everything is slow everywhere for some reason right now. Could be the fronts that keep moving through (move t-storms today and tomorrow in the forecast). I went out in the kayak the other night for a couple hours to a small pond that usually has great bass. All I could manage were 3 little 10 inchers. I hope it gets betters soon.

Slow on the river too. I fished the Bellows Falls pool of the CT river 7 hours on 8/10. Good water color, lots of current, sunny and some light breeze...good conditions. I managed 3 SM and one LM fishing heavy cover with jigs and TX rigs. Nothing over two lbs. Probably should have thrown Senkos, but... Fished the Vernon dam pool several hours on 8/12. Not much current, but other wise good conditions. Started out in deep water on rock with dropshots and Senkos, managed a few dinks and rockies. Tried several largemouth areas...0. Went north to Dummerston and started to get some "lobster" (pound to pound and an half) SM on dropshot. Then moved over to a gravel bar with grass and current. My partner and I each got a 1 3/4 lb. SM (jigworm and tube) then a few more lobsters. On 8/17 I took the fly rod and hip boots to Harriman looking for little leaper SM and Fallfish. Just one leaper, but caught and released 3 rainbows and a brown trout, go figure Yesterday I tried to put in at the VTF&W access in Putney (again Vernon dam pool) but it was closed for tree work. So I drove an additional 1/2 mile south, behind a cornfield, on a gravel road to the VTF&W Dummerston access. Nice ramp! Went north up river about 7 miles. Water was high with little current. Not good conditions. Caught nothing at first two stops. Then hit a pocket above a gravel bar that had wind slapping into it, got a 2 1/4 lb. SM on a #3 Mepps. Tried a shade pattern with nothing to show for it. Then went to the Zoom Fluke and drifted with the current over grass beds. Got a 2 1/2 lb. SM to eat the Fluke while I was looking at the scenery. Saw a couple of others there too, turned the boat but no more takers. Finally at the last gravel bar I tried before I had to quit a small school of SM chased the Mepps up to the boat, I landed another 2 1/2 lb. Turned the boat and managed to catch one more. Sort of a slow day bite wise but the quality was good.

Brian thanks for the report. I have thought the Connecticut River would be a fun place to fish. I have always enjoyed fishing rivers. The Penobscot in Maine is one of my favorite places and I picture the Connecticut to be similar.
But it is a long drive and Champlain is so close.

"But it is a long drive and Champlain is so close"
I know what you mean, I have thought about having our club try and have a tournament somewhere over that way next season.

The same guys complaining that Fort Cassin is too far will drive to Plattsburg and locations out of state for tourneys. It's all a matter of scale, I guess. Our little club tourneys aren't worth anything $$, so to some, it's not worth a 1 hour drive from home. I'm up for some new waters next year. I propose something in NY on free fishing weekend (to keep it close we could say South Bay only, or Champlain Canal out of Whitehall (no permit needed). In, I think Lake Iroquois and Lake Morey or Fairlee would make good destinations.

We talked about Champlain Canal before. It sounds interesting.
Converse has a better ramp than Ft Cassin if we go that way again.
I haven't fished Morey or Fairlee and would be interested. If we are thinking of that side of the state how about the Connecticut River in that same area?
Or how about South Hero?
