First fishing outing of the new year was yesterday. A bit windy at Harriman, but the sun was shining and the fish were biting. The plan was to start off with tip ups, draw some fish to my spread and then sit in the pop-n-fish, jig , eat lunch and be warmer. Good plan, it worked. Set out 7 tip-ups with very over priced shiners , I gotta work on that, find a better supplier. Flags started popping quickly, nice, I was in the right area. Lots of dropped baits at first, not so nice, maybe I'm in a tiny perch/rockbass spot . Wind chill made the hands pretty cold dropping the baits 25' back down to the bottom, but that's where the perch were and bigger fish started moving in. After I'd caught all I wanted and used up most of the baits, I pulled most of the tip-ups and broke out the jig rod. This year I'm trying Maki soft plastics on the jigs. Had good luck with the Maki on the bottom half ant and the Poli on the upper tear drop. I didn't have to extract any perch eye balls . Caught one fallfish, one rockbass and about 25 perch, kept 16. Nice day. Smooth ice about 16" thick, easy walking with creepers.

Nice! Bait at Earles bait shop was $2.50 a dozen. He is about three miles south of exit one off 1-91 in Vernon on the left side of Rt. 5. Certified by the state of VT.
