I just got a new Lowrance Elite7HDI gps/fishfinder combo unit with downscan imaging for Christmas and want to install it on my boat. my question is what do you all suggest for installing the transducer. should I mount it for through the hull or should I mount it on the transom? I have a Skeeter SL190 fish and ski fiberglass boat and the transom juts in on the bottom where the drain plug and livewell intakes are. I would like to have the temperature also but am thinking I could do that separately if I decide to mount it through the hull. does mounting through hull effect the sonar at all? was wondering if anyone has run into this before and what solution you came up with. thanks, Jeremy.

I think you can use it either way. Through the hull or a surface mount. Guess it comes down to when you want to use it. If while fishing assuming using electric trolling motor, you might want transducer and unit up front so can see what your fishing. If plan to use at console, through hull has it's advantages. Not sure if through the hull affects DI or not but owners manual should tell you. Advantage of through hull is less turbulence, isn't catching weeds, don't have to worry about damaging puck like you would with a surface mount (I got a new puck on its way as I finally wrecked the one on my trolling motor). Good luck.

I plan on using it at the console because I have a cheap fish finder on the front for now, wanted something with the gps chartplotter at the console. i'm gonna go dig out the users manual again and go through it right now. thanks for the input.
