Two years ago I took a chance on an Abu Garcia rod and reel combo with a Black Max reel and a Vengenace rod. Had no use for the reel at the time being it was right hand retrieve and had just bought two new Revo's, but the rod seemed fine and the 6' 9" length interested me. Like to use as long a rod as possible but at times they can be a little too long for some techniques and thought the 6' 9" would be useful. Anyway, loved the rod and was looking for another but never could find one even direct from Abu. Saw a combo for $79.95 at Dicks with a $20 rebate. Went over and got one and it was available with LH retrieve reel. After rebate the the total cost for the rod and reel is $59.95. The rod is $49.95 regular price and performs well above its cost. This is great combo and deal for your first bait casting outfit. I got it again for the rod but will have the reel in the boat for a back up maybe rigged with a light braid.
At check out after a friendly conversation with the check out girl the young lady said " I'm not supposed to do this but", and scanned something and I got 20% off too!

Those young handsome guys get all the breaks...... Saw the ad when got back and they got some good deals on frogs and scatter raps too. For $5 I'd give them a try. Normally they are about $8. I did see there were limited numbers though which Dick's doesn't usually stipulate. Gonna be over that way tomorrow will stop in to check around.

Picked up four scatter Raps and couple of the new Tukor KVD square bills on sale for 2/$11 because I liked the new perch color. Not sure about the Scatter Rap. Only had the shape I liked in 1/4 and 5/16 oz which may be a little light to cast on a bait caster. I got the 5/16th. Will find out if things ever thaw out. They were well stocked by the way and putting up more this am.

Bought the reel that 's on it last year for panfish. Cost me $35 for just the reel. For $24 dollars more you get the rod with the combo.

We stopped at the mall on the way home from dinner and as usual I browsed at Dick's. They had fantastic deal going on the original Z-Man Chatter baits. Dark colored 3/8 oz (Brown/pumpkin & white and black/white frog) for $1.99 each when usually 5.99. Also had more popular colors Black/blue & White for $4.99. I loaded up with a dozen or so.

No, they didn't have any on sale and I don't recall even seeing anything bigger then 3/8's. I would have like to pick up the heavier version.

I've fished the green frog/chartreuse for a long time, great bait early and late season. Not bad in the summer sometimes either. Late fall can be outstanding when both LM and SM are up shallow. Pull it over a ledge or log and kill it. You can get some ferocious hits as it drops. Hits on a bladed jig especially with a swim bait trailer are rarely subtle and can about pull the rod out of your hand. Lot's of fun when working. As far and the brown/black frog color, I haven't tried them but I like the colors. I think they will work. Hope to find out soon.

I got into my back up inventory thanks to several encounters with pike. Those chatterbaits on sale discussed above had I think the old style blade. I.E. the top of the blade was straight and not bent like current (more expensive?) ones. Does not have the same vibration until you do a little bending. Then they thumped pretty good and worked too.
