First time casting rod/reel for a 7 y/o

Can anybody make any recommendations for a good setup to teach my boy casting equipment? He's pretty good with the spinning rig but he wants to do everything daddy's doing. (he tries to pitch with the spinning rod - its too cute)

Any tips would be appreciated.

Set the brake controls tight and don't put on too much line. Give him a quick tutorial and let him go out in the back yard and make some knots. The more he's exposed to the faster he'll learn. As far as equipment ABU-GARCIA usually has some great deals in the spring on combos, especially the less expensive ones.

Thanks for the tip. I've let him bind up an old one I had a couple times. Then I went out and got a zebco33. Now he's pitchin in the living room lol. He's getting pretty good. I have to put him on some fish this year!
