This is a response from a question from fishing machine on the reports page.
I fished with a regular motor guide troller last year and found that I was wanting more control and flexibility in the ways I could control my 20 FT Deckboat.
I did some research and what suited my needs best was a Minn Kota Terrova with Ipilot.
With this system, you have options with a detailed foot control and a remote that you hang off from your neck.
The foot controller is responsive and has most of the regular features such as constant on, etc. The remote has additional features such as anchor, trip memory, constant azimouth.
With the remote i can monitor my sonar at the console and get to the spots I want to with little hassle.
Anchor-keeps you in position by using the GPS to keep the boat in the spot you dictate. Great feature especially on those "breezy" days. The memory also allows you to run a path and record it. now all you have to do is hit a button and the troller leads along the path you recorded-this is good for "hump runs"
Auto azimouth is just what it says hit the button and it stays on a certain azimouth so you are always going in a straight line.
I fish from the back of my boat frequently, so having the control with the remote from anywhere has increased my control quite a bit.
Bottom line it has allowed me to concentrate on my fishing tenfold and has taken the worry out of getting into trouble, especially if I hook up, hit anchor and you now are not worried about drifting into rocks and you can concentrate on landing your fish.
I can answer questions you have because I didn't cover everything just the highlights.
The troller cost $1,450 but in my opinion worth every cent
