Going to have to replace my batteries that are 6-7 years old. Looking for conventional lead fill batteries. Ideas on who makes a good battery at a good price?

You should replace them with what you had. That much time on deep cycle batteries is almost double what I have gotten out of Everstart batteries from Walmart.

Ha ha, guess what I just bought? The Everstart Max but went from 27 series to 29. Has a 2 year warranty vs one everyone else offers and it was cheaper to boot. But I usually take really good care of my batteries charging them as soon as boat is back at camp and keep them full of water. Everstarts are made by Johnson Controls I think I read so hopefully if I take care of them they will hold up. My trolling motor batteries usually last me 5-7 years. Only concern is these batteries are a combined 20lbs more then my Interstates but hopefully the trade off will be longer life. At least weight is in rear of boat.

I was not being critical of Everstarts just being realistic. I know of no one ever getting seven years out of their batteries so whatever you had must have been good. Best batteries I ever had were Delco but never find them anymore. Walmart used to sell them.None of our Quito parts store have them either so I have bought Everstarts the last few times.

What I had were Interstate's 27 series deep cycle. Paid $100 each 7 years ago but now they are almost $130. Interstate doesn't enjoy the best rep but I was happy with them. Before that were I think Autozone's dual purpose 27's that came with the boat which I bought in 2010. I not sure how old they were (I want to say previous owner replaced in 2009) but I had bought an Autozone cranking battery that didn't last long and AZ wouldn't stand behind it so went to NAPA that sells Deka batteries under NAPA name that have a very good reputation. It wasn't cheap but seems to work OK. I think it's a 27 series too but BCB recommends a 31 series for the Optimax engines. I haven't had issues starting. If I have any issues it's with electronics shutting off when start engine but haven't had any issues last few times out. Think I'm running a little more during fishing day which helps keep charge up. My electronics are hooked up to the bus under the dash too. Everything I've read recommends running a separate wire for electronics directly to battery with a fuse. Maybe next winter Jim White and I will tackle that little project.
Have you bought the Everstart or Everstart Max. I bought the latter. They are 10 pounds heavier so weight should equal reserve power.
Hope you get out this weekend. Have company all weekend so I'll be home. Hope to get up Tuesday or Wednesday and stay until Monday am. Have club tourney out of Larrabee's the 4th. With a few days to hunt, hopefully can put something together. Damn, it's mid summer already. I haven't been up in two weeks.

my group 27 deep cycles last about three seasons before losing some strength. They still work, but not as well as they used to.
