What a great catch! Hope anyone who catches a fish like that has read this article and why these guys released it. Of course I would not criticize anyone for keeping such a trophy either, but like they said when you take a fish like that you are taking a piece of the river.

I wouldn't mind hooking up with a fish like that. Of course I would lose it, and figure I just hooked the bottom ;D

We have them down here in the lower Mohawk river. There are also tiger muskie in Cossayuna lake believe it or not. Saw a picture of one taken a couple years ago. Unfortunately it was returned to the lake. Not sure tiger muskie and muskie are the same species.

Because I didn't review it carefully before posting.... Was supposed to say "unfortunately was NOT returned to the lake...." Sorry about that. It was too bad he kept it for his wall. I know him and some old school guys even though young think they have to keep a fish to get it mounted. I fully support catch and release of all game fish rarely keeping bass, even the nice eating 1-2lb fish. There are not that many in Cossayuna so it was too bad it was not returned. Most folks up there don't keep them when they catch them. Worse, he got it during a tournament so not sure why he didn't have to return it unless it died due to the fight. Got info second hand so not positive of all the details but did see pictures. Fish was close to 40" if memory serves me right. I will see if I can find them again.
I'm on your side, I promise....

Here is a picture of the tiger muskie. It may have been bigger then 40". Like I meant to say, it was too bad it wasn't returned to the lake especially now that I know there are sterile.

No problem at all. I understood where you were coming from and I learned a couple things which is what the forums all about. If I ever get one, I'll be sure to get a picture and let her ago assuming I could get a monster like that to the boat.

Wow! What a great fish! Picture, well not so great, too bad. If VT had tiger muskies I'd want it to be strictly catch and release, artificials, single hook. Being they don't spawn it would be the only way to maintain the population without restocking of course.
I have two fish mounts at home on the wall and no way there will be three. The taxidermists in both cases did not do very well. First one I'm not even sure it was the same fish. The second the paint job is horrible but its nicely mounted. Believe it or not, I'm more fond and proud of some of my still pictures than the mounts. And on top of that now with digital photography the pic's are free!
Thanks for putting up that photo Brian, nice fish!

Wow! Very pretty fish! I wasn't meaning to jump on you .... I just hear that sort of thing from anglers alot with respect to muskie. They think that muskie eat "all the other fish" in the lake, including walleye, bass etc., which really isn't true. Everyone's seen the YouTube videos of muskie grabbing a walleye or a bass off someone's line at the side of the boat, but that's really the exception rather than the rule. Speaking of that, check this video out from Lake St. Clair! bcove.me/h98gs3e7Very cool video VTBASS!

Yeah, I wouldn't have wanted to be that smallmouth getting released. I'd be like "No, no! Put me in the livewell!!" I thought the same thing when they released the bass. Great video. Thanks. Bob

I was thinking there would be no way I would be putting my hand in the water anywhere near that smallmouth.

How long for a Muskie stocked during the last 3 years to reach 40 inches??
Aren't there already some Muskie swimming in Champlain?
Great video!

Thanks Shawn. I have had a couple of people tell me they caught a muskie in the creek. I float there quite a few times during a typical summer. I have caught some big pike (they always seem big in the yak) but I am wondering if I would know a muskie if I caught one
